Stewart
Boyd attended our May 2007 Boatbuilding
Class and built this wonderful example
of a Chesapeake Chester Yawl. Stuart
completed the majority of the build
during the class.

everything you need.
Planks are stitched
together using copper wire starting with
the Garboard.
plank getting pre-drilled
for stitching.
Once all of the planks are
stitched the Stem and transom is the
fitted. The Chester Yawl has now taken
shape.
Here Stewart is setting up
the transom so the boat can be squared
before the planks are tacked together.
Another view of the Stern
showing the braces.
here Stewart is using a
string line along the centreline and a
level to mark the locations for the
bulkheads.
Bulkheads
are being filleted in place.
More filleting.
Chester
Yawl turned over and the plank laps have
been filled.
Another view of the hull
showing the epoxy filled laps...
The
first 2 strakes are glassed. Once the
epoxy has cured the excess glass is
trimmed.
Forward and rear deck and
bulkheads have now been fitted. The rear
deck is being weighted down.
Starboard
side mahogany rub rail being fitted...
can't ever have enough clamps.
Now structurally
complete. All that is left to do
is clean her up, apply more coats of
epoxy and then varnish/paint. Stewart
did a thoroughly professional job of
building his Chester Yawl.
Stuart is currently
finishing his Chester Yawl and we will
post some more photos soon.....
